Abstract		In the article available mortality and morbidity data together with some estimated data about the prevalence of high risk factors in Slovenia are presented. Age stardandized mortality rate (SMR) data for Slovenia are near to the average SMR in European countries. But the decreasing tendency of SMR-so characteristic for north and west European countries with intensive CVD prevention programmes-has not been the case yet in Slovenia. The improvement of national information system for monitoring of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a precondition for more effective prevention and control of (CVD).
