Abstract		Acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage is a frequent emergency in general practice, emergency medicine and gastroenterology, with a significant mortality, especially in elderly patients with concommitant diseases. The authors describe the clinical features of this condition and current approach and treatment of these patients, which begins in the prehospital setting and continues at emergency departments and intensive care units.
