Abstract     The article presents the frequency of deaths in road traffic in Yugoslavia (republics and provinces in the last few years) and in 33 countries arround the world. In addition to road traffic traumatism, other forms of traumatism are shown in comparison with other causes of death, followed by accidents registered in the service for the medicine of labour, general practice and in hospital clinics in Yugoslavia, the Republic of Croatia and in the city of Zagreb in the period from 1982 to 1987. Accidents as causes of death are more frequent in road traffic in comparison with all forms of accidents in Yugoslavia as well as in the Republic of Croatia. The everage number of accidents registered in one year (from l984 to 1988) is 1.614.429 for Yugoslavia, 478.298 for the Republic of Croatia and 109.200 for the city of Zagreb, whereas the average daily distribution of injured persons amounts to 4.423 in Yugoslavia, 1.310 in Croatia and 299 in the city of Zagreb. The authors suppports the observation of all kinds of injuries in the trauma register as "conditio sine qua non" of an organized activity based on science. This will cover all types of protection of the entire population against injury, which is present in epidemic proportions in the city of Zagreb, the Republic of Croatia and in Yugoslavia. Without such an approach to injury, there is no significant sanitation of the traumatism epidemic. Previous attempts are only palliative measures which have not provided significant results. ACTION -l0 per cent - This is the action our republic has joined hands with the World Health Organisation and the International Prevention Organisation to reduce the degree of road accidents and their consequences. Last year's and the first half of this year's statistics about road accidents and their consequences reveals a much better situation regarding the road security conditions on the roads in Slovenia.(trunc.)
