Abstract     The statistical data of the Secretariat for Internal Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia were used to study the frequency of traffic accidents resulting in injury or death of children and youth on roads in Slovenia in the periods 1985-1989 and 1970-1979. In the last 20 years, 1.166 children and youth have died on Slovene roads and 34.170 were injured. It is impossible to estimate the extent of such a catastrophe for a republic as small as Slovenia. How horrifying it would be if these tragic occurences of the last 20 years were to happen all on one day. We would be speaking of a tragedy in which the children and youth of 24 buses would die, and the children or 680 buses would be injuried. Children are mostly the victims in traffic accidents: they are involved as passengers in one third of all traffic accidents where they are victims, and cause only up to 20 per cent of all traffic accidents.
