Abstract		Background. In the year 1991 WHO has published its tenth revision of International Classification of Diseases - the ICD 10. In this publication in the Chapter V: Mental, behavioural and developmental disorders, there are the diagnostic guidelines added. Such a manual wus badly neaded in Slovenia. Namely, there was a conceptual confusion in the field of dependence on psychoactive substances. And a great deal of this confusion was due to lack of more precise and exact diagnostic criteria. The author describes Chapter V. of tenth revision of International Classification of Diseases titled: Mental, behavioural and developmental disorders. He analyses in more details the definition of Dependence on psychoactive substances. Results and conclusions. In conclusion, he states that these criteria give medical doctors possibility for more accurate work with dependent patients and in the same time more attractiveness of this field for young medical doctors.
