Abstract		Within integral solving of waste related problems in Slovenia, the medical waste has represented a long-lasting problem. Specific properties of such waste which is generated by health system activities including laboratory investigations represent an additional complicating factor. All waste may pose direct or indirect hazard to humans and the environment, however this is particularly true in case of medical waste. The main hazard is posed by infectious medical waste through a possible spread of micro-organisms causing infections.
