Abstract | This article describes the occurance of 66 - zoonotic diseases in the world, where rodents are principal animals involved, 38 of these diseases are possibly present in Slovenian rodent's population. In the 20th century, the veterinary profession has been in the forefront of control and eradication of zoonotic diseases. Many zoonotic viral diseases that have a rodent host have caused devastating fatal diseases in man - for exsample - in Africa the Lassa fever has caused death in medical personnel. Furthermore Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever has caused death in abattoir workers or the death of veterinarians in the western USA from plaque, and there have been reports of serious hemorrhagic illness in Argentina and Bolivia. Although Lyme borreliosis and the Hantaan virus complex have been recognized as an important zoonotic diseases etc... The emergence of zoonotic diseases are challenges to all professions concerned with public health and veterinarians and other scientists are among the first line of defense of the public health. In control and eradication of zoonotic diseases that have a rodent host is deratization an elementary and main preventive action- so we can very well prevent rodent population increases. | |
