Abstract     In 2000 and 2001 on Ljubjansko barje I investigated influence of mowing regime on breeding success of Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra). Optimal breeding habitats of the species are once or once per two years mowed meadows, where over 5 breeding pairs per 10 ha can be found. On extensively managed, two times mowed meadows, where up to 2 breeding pairs per 10 ha can be found, collision between mowing and nesting is the greatest. On the basis of the data from 94 found nests I conciude, that Whinchats start with breeding between 15th April and 31st May (replacement clutches excluded). Between 7th May and 15th June the species is the most sensitive to disturbance. According to the model, which was developed for this purpose, over 60% of nest failures can be expected when mowing of extensively managed meadows begin at the beginning of the May. The percentage fall below 10% if delay in mowing until middle of the June is considered.
