Abstract		In irradiation treatment of tumours involving the head and neck, the irradiation of healthy surrounding tissues often cannot be avoided. This may cause injury to salivary glands, teeth, oral mucosa, muscles and the temporomandibular joint. The patients have difficulty chewing, swallowing and speaking. The side effects of radiotherapy can be prevented or at least alleviated by appropriate measures, which must be taken before, during and after the treatment.
Summary		Pri obsevanju tumorjev v predelu glave in vratu se ni mogoče izogniti obsevanju zdravih okolnih tkiv. Posledica so okvare žlez slinavk, zob, ustne sluznice, mišic in čeljustnega sklepa. Bolniki imajo zato predvsem težave pri žvečenju, požiranju in govoru. Skrb za bolnika mora biti načrtovana skupinsko in že pred začetkom obsevanja. Bolnika je potrebno spremljati med zdravljenjem in po njem vse življenje.
