Abstract     Ethical dilemmas result from conflicring values. They can relate to do the research, the subject to be ,studied and the actual conduct of the enquiry. Difficulties can present at both a personal and a professional level. Judgement about what is right conduct lie on a continuum ranging from the clearly unethical to the ethical. /ndividual tolerances vary, and people's values and attitudes changes over time. The issues are not often all black or all white. Not only those conducting the research, but also nurses, midwives and health visitors involved at the level of protecting the people in their care, require to be sensitive to tltese issues. The article deals with responsibilities of the researchers and participants. Special attentlon is given to the informed consent, the identity of the researcher and aspects of eonfidentiality and anonymity. Only some points are given about the role of Ethics Committee, responsibilities of the educator and the manager.
