Abstract     Functioal voice disorders (FD) are the consequencies of velopharyngeal insufficiency. They are reported to be more frequent in subjects with clefts than in population without clefts. The paper presents the prevaIence of voice disorders in 115 children with clefts (61 CP 50 unilateral CLP, 4 bilateral CLP) as assessed by a speech pathologist and a phoniatrician. Voice disorder was detected in 13 (11.3%) cleft children. Functional dysphonia was the cause for disorder in 11 children (9.6%). Hypernasality was detected in 6/11 children with functional dysphonia. The results of the study showed that the prevalence of dysphonia in the subjects with clefts is not greater than in the population without clefts.
