Abstract     As we are joining the European Union and taking over common directives the gradual reorganisation of transfusiology is also being prepared. A quality assuring system similar to a dutch model will be introduced and valid through out the country. The reorganisation will adopt our legislative regulation and specific characteristics, also international guidelines and recommendations will be consideres. Blood donation is going to be organised on national basis, common professional criteria will come into force. A central blood donor's data base and an information system, which will connect all basic activities, are going to be established. Uniformity of transfusiologic activity will be managed by the national centre in Ljubljana. lt will be a co-ordinating institution with all the other basic tasks. Smaller transfusiologic centres will have to lean on bigger ones. Changes in personnel will follow the working process. lf they want to co-operate, the relations between public and private health will have to be clear.
