Abstrakt		Background. Diseases that are leading to liver cirrhosis and/or portal hypertension in children are not as frequent as in adults. On the other hand there are many causes that lead to portal hypertension. This affects the diagnostics and the choice of the most suitable treatment. Methods. In the article an overview of current literature regarding portal hypertension with special stress on variceal bleeding is given. Conclusions. Because of diversity and rarity of diseases leading to portal hypertension in children, mulicentric studies to determine the most appropriate therapy for specific subgroups of patients are required.
Izvleček		Izhodišča. Bolezni, ki vodijo v cirozo jeter in/ali portalno hipertenzijo pri otrocih niso tako pogoste, kot pri odraslih. Po drugi strani so vzroki za nastanek portalne hipertenzije zelo različni. To vpliva na diagnostiko in izbiro najustreznejšega zdravljenja. Metode. V članku je prikazan pregled novejše literature s poudarkom na krvavitvi iz varic. Zaključki. Zaradi različnosti in relativne redkost bolezni, ki vodijo v portalno hipertenzijo pri otrocih, so potrebne multicentrične raziskave, s katerimi bo potrebno ugotoviti najprimernejše načine zdravljenja.
