Abstract     HPV infection can etiologically contribute to the development of certain tumours in the oral cavity. However, understanding of the etiological role of HPV in oral carcinogenesis is hampered by the fact that there is a marked variation in the HPV-DNA prevalence rate in tissue specimens of oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC), varying from 0% to 100%. In our study,104 tissue specimens from Slovene patients were investigated and HPV DNA was detected in 9.6% of cases. These results are comparable to recently published articles found in the literature.
