Abstract     An analysis is made of the frequency of neurological and psychological disorders in children delivered by cesarean section. In 163 children delivered in this way 2 (1,2 per cent) were found with neurological and 5 (3,07 per cent) with psychological disorders. In the comparable group of 2 019 children delivered vaginally, 92 (4,5 per cent) were found with neurological and 110 (5,4 per cent) with psychological disorders, the difference not being statistical (P more than 0.05). It is concluded that cesarean section represents a safe and reliable way of the termination of pregnancy, involving a negligible risk of brain damage and late neurological and psychological disorders. It is recommended, in the child's interest, to widen and liberalize indications for this surgical intervention, by which, however, it should not be forgotten that the mother's morbidity and mortality through cesarean section is several times higher than that in natural delivery
