Abstract | Rehabilitation of stroke patients dictates a team approach. Physiotherapy plays a major role in restoring motor functions, locomotion in particular. The physiotherapeutic approach is determined on an invidividual basis, its target being the affected function. The bottom line of a physiotherapeutic program is the assessment of the patient's state. The physiotherapist de cides on the approach on an individual basis, most frequently on neurophysiotherapeutic treatment. Applied are the Bobath and the PNF methods, and the motor retrainig model. The training of gait is performed by means of devices enabling task-specific training, complex activities, and repetitive exercises, namely, treadmill, Gait Trainer and Balance ReTrainer. The physiotherapist will also suggest suitable technical aids for gait and will help the patient and his family to integrate themselves into a new environment. | |
