Abstract     Driving a motor vehicle requires a high degree of competence on many levels, including physical abilities such as mobility, vision, and hearing, as well as cognitive skills necessary to integrate and respond appropriately to multiple rapid and transient signals. Stroke patients present with various physical and neuropsychological impairments, some of which represent definite symptoms contrary to driving and others more ambiguous in nature. Evaluation of their ability to return to driving is an important task. These evaluations require predictively valid methods of assessment based on identification of relevant skills and abilities. The article presents an overview of methods currently used.
