Abstract     Aortic dissection is a life threatening condition with a high mortality rate. According to literature, the mortality rate increases by 1% in each hour since the beginning of pain. The treatment of choice for this condition is surgical. It is known from literature, that the aortic dissection type A usually affects elderly patients, patients with Marfan syndrome and those with hypertension. Till now there are no data for Slovenia about the number of such patients and their clinical characteristics. Therefore we made retrospective research, in which we tried to define demographic and clinical characteristics of patients, which were treated for aortic dissection type A in the University Clinical Centre Ljubljana.
