Abstrakt     Epilepsy is a disorder that has much influence to the cognition, cognitive functions and so far to the memory. That is why many older authors believed that is the late complication of epilepsy also a dementia epileptic dementia. New knowledge did not confirm that. Dementia as late complication of the disease could be a consequence of the epileptic seizures and damage of the brain and on the other hand outcome of the other brain disease and conditions like brain tumors, infections, metabolic disorders, hormonal changes, degenerative diseases and many others, very often is the dementia an issue of antiepileptic drugs, specially the old ones. An important ro% for the diagnostic problems can play the fact, that the epileptic seizures are more often at the older people with or without the dementia and so far there are many problems to distinguish between them. Because of interlace of many different causes for the dementia is really very difficult to confirm or to disprove epileptic dementia from other dementia syndromes. In the future there is need for new mmprehension and studies witch will give new and clearer answers weather epileptic dementia as independence diagnostic unit exist or not. Most likely with answers on this question there will appears meaning of classification in both classification systems ICD-10 and DSM-N.
