Abstract     For the period from April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2004 a retrospective review of microbiological analysis of tissue specimens from 68 patients with implants was performed. From 42 (32.3%) patients one sample from each patient was taken and 26.1% of them were positive. In one patient, all 9 collected samples were positive. Of all patients, 27 had at least one sample positive and 9 of them had two or more samples with the same bacterial species. Of all 130 samples collected fram 68 patients, 4%, were positive and genus Staphylococcus predominated [74.3%]. Anaerobes were not isolated in spite of strict anaerobic conditions of cultivation. S. epidermidis was the most frequently isolated species. Three isolates of S. aureus were MRSA. All the isolates of the genus Staphylococcus were susceptible for vancomicin and fusidic acid.
