Abstract     Traffic calming measures are intended to make driving with inappropriate speed physically impossible or to call driver's attention to the speed limitation on dangerous road segments. This article deals with the influence of some of these measures on environmental noise. The evaluation of influence is based on field noise measurements at seven chosen measures. In addition to general (equivalent) noise levels also impulse components are dealt with. The measures do influence impulsiveness directly and general noise levels via speed of vehicles and driving manner. Regarding environmental noise, most appropriate are measures, which significantly reduce speed, do not allow excessive accelerations and do not cause impulsiveness.
