Abstract | Thirtyfive cases of nonimmunologic hydrops fetalis (NHF) in a 10 years period between 1982 and 1992 were included in a study. Clinical, microbiological, cytogenetic and pathomorfological examinations were studied. The incidence of NHF was 1 in 1990 birkhs. In 1991 NHF represented 33% of all hydropic cases. Eight babies (23%) were live born and they all died soon after birth. The mortality was therefore 100%. Hydrops was discovered antenatally in 26 cases (74%). In our cases the major pathomorfological findings were cardiovascular anomalies (22.8%), chromosomal anomalies (17%), infections of fetus (14.3%) and Lethal Multiple Pterygium Syndrome (11.4%) .Also urinary anomalies, hypoxia, Smith-Lemli-0pitz Syndrome, Thanatophoric Dwarfism, Mucopolisaharidosis and Twin-twin transfusion syndrome were diagnosed. In six cases (17%) no pathomorfological cause was found to explain the development of hydrops. | |
