Abstract | The article cites comparative studies of non-operative and operative treatment of thoracolumbar spine injuries. They have all proved the cure of operated patients is quicker than of those treated non-operatively. The comparison of different operative methods, however, has not shown big differences in results. There are considerable differences only between the use of Harrington's rods and transpedicular screws. Non-operative method remains valid treatment of the spine injury, specially when the operation is not indicafed or is even confra-indicated. For a long time it has been the only way of treating low energy spine injuries; recently, two new methods have been introduced: percutaneous vertebroplasty and balloon kiphoplasty. There are some experiences in this domaine also in Slovenia. | |
