Abstract     In the past, due to different definitions and subsequent nonreproducibility, preinvasive changes of the glandular epithelium of the cervix uteri mucosa caused difficulties and disagreement in the diagnosis and evaluation of their biologic potential. With the aim of making the diagnostic criteria for these changes uniform, and on account of the absolute and relative increase in the frequency of glandular carcinoma of the cervix uteri that was present up to the year 1980, in 2002 the World Health Organization (WHO) presented a new classification of noninvasive glandular changes of the cervix uteri. This classification includes the following categories: glandular dysplasia and adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS). When evaluating glandular changes of the cervix uteri, the differential diagnosis should additionally consider microinvasive adenocarcinoma and benign glandular changes - endocervical »tunnel cluster«, deep glands and Nabothian cysts, extravasated mucus, various types of metaplasia, endometriosis, endocervical polyps, glandular hyperplasia and epithelial non-neoplastic (reactive) atypia. The aim of the paper is to present preinvasive and benign glandular changes microinvasive adenocarcinoma of the cervix uteri included - and their clinical, morphologic and immunohistochemical properties and differences.
