Abstrakt		lmprovement of the health and reducing health status inequalities are the prime interest of public health. These aims can be achieved through a combination of health care, health promotion, social care and environmental improvement. In order to bring to the health policy accurate and well founded information the public health must be able to provide scientific services, professional services, policy advice, management advice and political skills. Public health should contribute to short- and long-term health planing especially with the aspects concerning equity and comprehensiveness, and the appropriate setting for each part of the service. The health policy must be present at all levels of social structures thats why public health advise must be available within each part of their organizational structures. Despite of long tradition, Slovenia has to develop a few of new functions and more complete organizational structure for public health.
