Abstract     We examined the relations between partial end-tidal CO2 and mean arterial pressure in patients with traumatic haemorrhagic shock by continuously measuring petCO2 with a capnograph, direct arterial pressure via cannula, pulse oximetry and body temperature in 61 patients. They were having constant minute ventilation. We observed significant changes in petCO2 (increase) after volume resuscitation and quantitative linear relationship between petCO2 and mean arterial pressure. Our conlusions were that partial end-tidal CO2 can be used as an indirect, noninvasive monitorin device in patients with haemorrhagic shock when minute ventilation is relatively constant. The monitoring of petCO2 might also be useful guide for volume resuscitation in haemorrhagic shock, especially in prehospital setting.
