Abstract		The nurse is very important member of medical team in treating of critical ill patient. Patient with acute respiratory failure is in life threatening conditon and needs prompt medical assistance. The article contains some basics of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The emphasis is on admision and observation of patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, triage, treatment of the patient in emergency department, assistance in intubation, preparation for transport of intubated ulientand nurses role in all phases of treating of the critical ill patient.
