Abstrakt | Background: Providing adequate nutrition is the basic treatment of various diseases. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy is the method of choice for long-term tube feeding in patients with swallowing disorders due to neurologic disease, cancer or head and neck injuries. Methods: Retrospective review of medical documentation of the patients who underwent PEG between 1999 and 2004 was performed. Demographic characteristics of patients, indications, and complications of PEG were analysed. Results: During the six-year period, 104 PEG tubes were placed. There were 68 (65%) female and 36 (35%) male patients, their mean age being 77 years. The majority of patients (n = 83, 79%) had neurological disease: they were followed by cancer patients (n = 16, 16%) and head and neck injuries (3%). In two cases PEG was impossible: in one because of respiratory complications and in the second because illumination through the anterior gastric wall was insufficient. Two patients had major complications when buried bumper syndrome occured. Consclusion: Our 6-year experiences have proven that PEG is an excellent method for providing long-term enteral nutrition in patients with dysphagia. It is obviously a very simple and effective method with low risk.
Analizirali smo starost in spol bolnikov. indikacije za poseg in zaplete po posegu. Rezultati: V šestih letih smo opravili PLC pri 104. bolnikih 68 (65%) je bilo žensk in 36 (35%) moških. Njihova povprečna starost je bila 77 let. Večinoma so bili nevrološki bolniki (n = 63,79%), sledijo onkološki bolniki (n = 16,16%) in bolniki s poškodbami glave in vratu (3%).
