Abstract     The presentation focuses on elements affecting the quality of learning and education at the University College of Nursing Studies, University of Maribor. The relationship lecturer-student, a decisive element in education, is of particular interest to the researcher. The lecturers, who observe and evaluate the students according to specific criteria, use the most developed strategies and methods to motivate them: they encourage them to be active during the study process, emphasise the value of personal participation, they are tolerant towards mistakes an imperfections, they encourage open-mindedness and self-confidence, underline self-evaluation and co-operation, allow confrontation of different ideas and opinions, etc. It is the lecturers opinion that empiric, personal, ethical and aesthetic knowledge, are part of a permanently developing qualitative education in nursing care.
