Abstract     Gastric carcinoma is a disease with poor prognosis. At the time of diagnosis, two thirds of patients have locoregional or metastatic disease. A number of researches were carried out, which combined surgical treatment with other treatment modalities, such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy, applied in particular in the treatment advanced disease. We distinguish between radical radiochemotherapy , which is expected to attain complete recovery, and palliative radiochemotherapy, which does not promise a complete recovery, but only alleviation of the patients health problems associated with gastric carcinoma, prolongation survival and improvement of the patients quality of life. Combined treatment definitely improves the treatment outcome; however, other treatment options, which would prove to be more favourable for our patients, remain to be studied.
