Abstract     Inhalation of medications is most optimal and widely accepted way for treatment of patients with airflow obstruction resulting in more pronounced therapeutic efficacy with the use of less drug compared to systemic route of drug administration. By inhalation the drug is delivered directly to the target area, there is a reduced likelihood of systemic side effects and more rapid onset of action. We use metered- dose inhalers with or without spacers, dry powder inhalers and jet and ultrasonic nebulizer to deliver short- and long-acting bronchodilators, corticosteroids and their combinations to the lungs. For successful treatment proper use of inhaler devices is needed. Side effects of inhalatory treatment are local due to deposition of drug in the mouth, pharynx and upper airways and systemic due to systemic resorbtion of the drug.
