Abstract     Liver resection and orthotopic liver transplantation are the only two curative therapies of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); regrettably, these two therapies are applicable to less than one fourth of all patientswith HCC. Systemic chemotherapy is not satisfactorily efficient, whereas local therapies have better treatment effect only in cases of local disease. The most effective local therapy is transcatheter arterial chemoembolization that in many cases can improve the survival of these patients. Carcinoid tumors are relatively rare and develop various symptoms; the most frequent is carcinoid syndrome which is usually detected in an advanced stage with numerous metastases in the liver. In this stage, the tumor is unresectable, whereas the resection of liver metastases is performed for palliative purposes for staging down the symptoms. Arterial chemoembolization is effective for the management of liver metastases, in particular in cases in which chemotherapy is inefficient.
