Abstract     Therapeutic embolization of the internal iliac arteries (IIA) is a well established technique for controlling severe hemorrhage caused by malignant disease. A variety of embolic materials have been used. There is some evidence that the best results are achieved with the use of permanent non-resorbable embolic materials and bilateral embolization. Embolization of the IIA is not without potentional complications, like necrosis of the bladder and rectum and sciatic nerve injury. The long-term outcome data are scare.
