Abstract     Thromboembolic events are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer patients and may be a sign of occult malignancy. Although linked to almost all cancers, vascular disorders are mostly seen in patients with cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, ovary, prostate, pancreas and blood cells. The association between vascular disorders and malignant neoplasms can be investigated using the Bradford-Hills criteria of causation. Five out of nine criteria were found in some vascular disorders. A vascular event presenting without an obvious cause or having an unexpected course should rise suspicion about the possible link with a malignant disease.
