Abstract		The authors review some already established facts, as well as different opinions of other authors on psychogenic cough, with the emphasis on the cough as a tic disorder. Different tic disorders, their aetiology, the influence of various factors, diagnostic procedures, differential diagnostic dilemmas and therapeutic possibilities are described. The importance of ruling out the organic causes of chronic cough before assigning it to a psychogenic cause is also emphasized. The case report of an adolescent female, whose coughing ceased following successful resolution of the choice of her future education and her visual appearance, will be presented.
