Abstract		Neuropathic pain is a consequence of alterations in nociceptive system function, biochemistry, and structure. The diagnostic procedure and treatment of neuropathic pain can be very complex. For clinical purpose we need simple methods for neuropathic pain recognition based on medical history and clinical examination. Knowledge of pain mechanisms at multiple nociceptive system levels could help us in understanding clinical findings and in the selection of appropriate pharmacological treatment.
