Abstrakt | Lyme borreliosis is a multisystem disorder caused by Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato. In the course of infection, many different organs and organ systems such as skin, heart, joints, and nervous system can be affected (Steere, 2001; Stanek and Strle, 2003). Early nervous system involvement (early neuroborreliosis) appears weeks to months after infection and is usually manifested with the involvement of cranial and/or peripheral nerves associated with meningitis (Coyle and Schutzer, 2002; Stanek and Strle, 2003). Microbiological confirmation of borrelial infection is necessary for all clinical manifestations of Lyme borreliosis, except for erythema migrans (Stanek and Strle, 2003; Wilske, 2003). The aim of the present study was to assess the immune response in the serum and the CSF of patients with clinical signs and symptoms indicating potential neuroborreliosis and to compare different serological tests for IgM and IgG detection. | |
