Abstrakt | Phantom pain is the sensation of pain in the part of the body that is amputated. It appears in about 50 to 80 percent of all amputees between one year after amputation. It is very important to treat the acute phantom pain in order to prevent the chronical one, which is difficult to influence. For this purpose the preoperative analgesia is used, although some studies showed no effect on the phantom pain. Different analgetics and tricyclic antidepressive drugs are used also. From the physical procedures TENS (transcutaneous electrical nevral stimulation) is mostly used. There are also some studies about biofeedback efficiency in the treatment of phantom pain. | |
