Abstract     Background: Diabetes is the most common endocrine disease and neuropathy one of its late complications. Diabetic polyneuropathy encompasses several neuropathic syndromes, by far the most common of which is distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DSP). Its important feauture is pain. Objectives: To study effectiveness of treating pain in patients with DSP with transcutaneus electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), pregabalin and combination of both. Methods and subjects: Three cases of patients with painful DSP, treated with TENS, pregabalin and combination of both. Findings: TENS, pregabalin and combination of both effectively reduce pain in patients with small nerve fibre metabolic neuropathy. Conclusions: TENS is an effective treatment of pains in patients with DSP with no side effects.
