Abstract		Urolithiasis is a common disorder with diverse underlying physicochemical derangements for stone formation. The rational medical treatment programmes aimed at preventing stone recurrence are directed specifically towards the underlying cause. The authors suggest practical guidelines for identifying specific aetiological factors.
