Abstrakt		Apart from Alzheimer's, vascular dementia is the second most common cause for cognitive impairment in the developed world. Traditionally, both diseases were considered to be different entities with distinct clinical and pathological profiles. Newer studies have revealed many common characteristics considering risk factors, pathogenesis and treatment options. Therapy has until recently been confined to the primary and secondary prevention of cerebrovascular disease, but new studies demonstrated significant benefits of treatment with Acetylcholin estherase inhibitors and memantine. The article presents review of diagnosis, clinical picture, classiiication and therapeutic options for vascular dementia.
