Abstract     Objective: we were interested in audiological performance of early-deafened late-implanted adults. Patients and methods: out of 133 patients implanted in ten years period there were seven (5,26%) adults with prelingually deafness. We evaluated the mode of communication before and after the implantation by Nottingham categories list. Results: one person is non-user. Others improved their ability to hear in the auditory only condition. None is able to discriminate speech without lip-reading. Conclusion: those individuals who primarily communicate, at least in part, in the oral modality, receive greater benefits with cochlear implant.
