Abstract     Among the numerous biological and genetic factors which influence child's growth and development are also factors of changeable socio-economical environment and lifestyle. Their influcnces can be seen in the changed speed of the children's body growth, different proportions of the certain parts of the body and final height. Throughout their development children become earlier sexually mature, most obviously seen in an early menarche. Intention of this work is to make use of the data collected throughout measuring of the five and six-year old girls and boys in the year 1996, and compare them with the data in the year 1966 for the population of the same age. Recognised differences are the basis for the foundation of the demand for the new standards of the Slovene children's body measures. Standardised pattern of two generations of five and six-year olds Maribor's children of both sex, will be measured into previously chosen parts of the body by standard method in the year 1996 and 1966. tables and diagrams of the particular body parts measures will be carried out, asses body growth status and find out secular changes and evaluate changes in the children's body constitution. Sample size comprised 1, 461 five and six-year old Maribor's children of both sex in the year 1966 and sample of 608 Maribor's children, measured in the year 1966. Children were chosen randomly from the record archive of the Dispensary for Children. Children were invited seven days before or after their birthdays. Before the measurements, all the children were examined by a paediatrician. All of them were measured in the morning and with parents' consent. In both examined group 28 physical features were compared. Measurements were carried out by standard anthropometric method, on the standard spots and equipment. Acquired variables were statistically analysed using z or t-test. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
