Abstrakt     Background. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most frequent cancer of the gastrointestinal tract occurring in Slovenia. In the Slovene Cancer Registry, there were 1198 new CRC cases and 711 deaths from CRC in 2003. Methods. In all surgical departments in Slovenia a survey of treated CRC patients was carried out in the year 2005. The obtained answers are analysed and the data are compared. Results. In year 2005,1121 CRC patients were treated in all surgical departments in Slove nia: 449/1121 (40,0%) patients in Ljubljana, (UMC 359, Institute of Oncology 84, Surgical Sanatorium Rožna dolina 6), 220 (19,6%) patients in two bigger regional hospitals (MB 134, CE 86) and 452 (40,4%) patients in other 9 surgical departments. The number of CRC patients treated in all surgical departments in Slovenia is growing. The overall operability rate was 98,3% (1102/1121) and the overall resectability rate 92% (1014/1 121). Postoperative mortality rate of resected patients was 4,7%. Conclusion. In Slovenia in the last decade early results of surgical treatment of CRC patients (operability, resectability, postoperative mortality) have remained almost unchanged, but late results (5-year survival, life quality of the rest of life and paliative care) have improved.
