Abstract		The rapid growth in the use and imponance of information systems (IS) has led to widespread interest in techniques for their planning. This paper outlines a review of possible approaches to information systems planning and their characteristics. There arefour different approaches: - IS planning independent on business plan - I Splanning based on businessplan - Linked IS and businessplanning - Strategic IS planning. In the paper some critical questions of planning process are stressed: - What is the objective of system development ? - What is the scope of the system ? - What benefits will be derived from the system ? - What resources will be required ? - Who manage th eplanning process? In conclusion, role of managers and IS professionals in IS planning are emphasised.
