Abstract     Neuroendocrine tumors originate from hormone secretory cell which are scatered in the gastric, duodenal and gut mucosa, as well as in the pancreas. They are capable to uptake amine precursors and to decarboxylate them and therefore they are classified under the so called APUD system cells (Amine Precusor Uptake and Decarboxylation). Tumors that arise from the APUD system cells are classified as APUDOMAS and are very rare, which is why they are not considered as a major medical problem. Neuroendocrine tumors give rise to peculiar clinical syndromes and can be difficult to diagnose. In this article we will introduce you to the fundamental diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms in managing of neuroendocrine tumors as well as our own experience in assessment of these tumors over the past three years.
Summary     Nevroendokrini tumorji prebavil nastajajo iz hormonsko aktivnih celic, ki so razpršene po sluznici želodca, dvanajstnika, črevesa in po trebušni slinavki. Sposobne so prevzemati aminske prekurzorje in jih dekarboksilirati, zato jih uvrščamo med celice sistema APUD (Amine Precusor Uptake and Decarboxylation), tumorje, ki nastanejo iz njih, pa med APUD-ome. Tovrstni tumorji so redki in sstališča razširjenosti niso pomemben zdravstveni problem. Povzročajo različne težave in zaradi tega je odkrivanje nevroendokrinih tumorjev pogosto težavno. V pričujočem prispevku so podane temeljne diagnostične in terapevtske smernice v obravnavi nevroendokrinih tumorjev in izkušnje našega oddelka pri odkrivanju nevroendokrinih tumorjev v zadnjih treh letih.
