Abstract		The contribution deals with the most important affective disorders and their impact on the ability to work. Special emphasis is laid on permanent and temporary inability to work. Depression is ,the most frequent and complex affective disorder which has various influences on the ability to work throughout the life cycle. We also mention stress-related and somatoform disorders which can also be important particularly in the times of crises.
