Abstrakt     Each and every mental health program has to include primary care. No single service setting can meet all mental health needs of the population. Support, supervision, collaboration, information- sharing and education across different levels of care are essential to any system. People with mental disability need to be involved in their own recovery and this must be reinforced at each level of care. Family physicians treat the majority of depressed patients, only one fifth of the patients are referred to the secondary care. Physicians fail to recognize most of the patients with mild symptoms at their first visit. Good physical accessibility and continuity of care ensure that the majority of disorders that require a formal form of treatment are recognized ant treated.
