Abstract     Background. In vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) has become an effective, relatively simple and repeatable infertility treatment method since its first use fifteen years ago. Thus, and analysis of his present routine and successful work should be done. Methods. Pregnancy and birth after IVH-ET procedure of singletons (more multiple pregnancies after IVF-ET can per se have adverse outcome) born in Slovenia from 1987 to 1991 were retrospectively analyzed. They were compared to singletons conceived spontaneously. Results. We have found no signficant differences comparing bleeding in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy, hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, intrauterine growth retardation, placental abruption, perinatal mortality rate, low birth weight newborns, congenital anomalies and Apgar score below 7. Followirng IVF-ET we have found more bleedings in the 1st trimester, more premature deliveries, a higher caesarean section rate and a lower neonatal morbidity rate. Conclusions. We have found little difference in the pregnancy outcome between IVF-ET and spontaneously conceived singleton pregnancies.
