Abstract		Slovenia has shared with other countries of Central and Eastern Europe a very rapid development of general practice. The author, who has been the president of the Section for general practice of the Slovenian medical association, describes in his article this development after 1980 and describes the current situation in general practice in Slovenia. The conclusion of the article is dedicated to the expected trends in general practice in Slovenia in the future and the tasks that general practice will have to fulfill in order to follow the development of the discipline.
